Bruno Rigutto - Chopin Concertos
Chopin seems to have composed his second concerto before the first one, during his arrival to Vienna in 1830. We would like to believe it, so much he testifies of fiery youth, ardour and this particular classicism of the first romanticism. The nostalgia for hardly left Poland gets involved in the enthusiasm of the discovery of a strangely vast world in which the young Chopin already seems to anticipate his wandering...
We feel a shock of freshness, a constant delight in front of the wealth of the themes and harmonies which succeed one after another. But is it only a concerto? The second movement, filled with the crazy freedom of the dreamer of Baudelaire - " ...Clouds, magnificent clouds "-, is unique . The second concerto of Chopin is a piece made of aristocratic classicism as much as of fantasy of sadness. It is a magic improvisation on the thread of happiness and nostalgia.
